Raf Simons' Dior Debut
Ever since Raf Simons was announced as the new designer of Christian
Dior three months ago, the fashion industry has been waiting to find out, how
does a famed minimalist lead the scented and beribboned house of Christian Dior
and he definitely didn't disappoint, with a mix of fantastical florals,
luxurious fabrics, bright colours and a mix of John Galliano's (the shamed ex
Dior Designer, who created some of Dior’s most memorable designs over the last
few seasons) flamboyant style and Raf Simons minimalist yet architectural
design.
It was the show that
everyone was waiting for with baited breath, Raf Simons debut for Christian
Dior. The Belgium designer, who was appointed as creative director in April
this year, was asked to hit the ground running by starting off with working his
magic on its couture line. Now that’s a big responsibility, but one Raf seemed
perfectly capable of taking on, his collection was completely different to what
everyone expected but he truly worked his magic and didn't disappoint. Dior is
clearly in talented, skilled and inspired hands. I can't wait to see what he
comes up with in the coming seasons, Raf Simons' is definitely one to watch and
the perfect choice to take over the reigns at Dior.
Raf has created something really beautiful. It was what you hoped for and more – it was such a beautiful homage to Dior, a mix of the modern, clean and unexpected with a real lightness of touch, the mood pre show as filled with expectation and hope. This same mood of hope and expectation could be seen on the catwalk as Simons married his architectural background with elegant femininity to present a new vision which had the Twittersphere erupting with applause as soon as the show began. The front row of the show
was littered with the fashion A List including US Vogue editor Anna Wintour,
whom I’m sure gave Raf Simons' her seal of approval and no one could wish for more than that.
Look out there will be more from the Haute Couture Autumn/ Winter 2012-13 Catwalks, on my Blog this week. In the mean time get all the latest from http://www.vogue.co.uk
