Can anyone beat the French?

Today I decided to keep it topical, after England held France to a one all draw, in Euro 2012 on Monday night, I decided to focus on what the French do best and lets face it, it's Fashion and plenty of it. The birth of French fashion obviously starts with Coco Chanel. Whether it be the classic Chanel suit, the LBD or the Chanel quilted handbags we all know, love and lust after. Chanel defined the modern era of not only french fashion but also international fashion and even up to her dying day she lived for fashion. Even today Karl Lagerfeld continues this tradition keeping Chanel relevant in today's fashion industry, making old look new and new look vintage. How does he do it?

Another amazing French Fashion designer is Christian Dior, some of his work have made me gasp in wonder at some of the most beautiful designs I have even seen. During Paris fashion week Christian Dior's haute couture pieces sell for around £100,000. The French clearly know how to make something truly beautiful. Even the Hollywood A List appreciate the genius of the Dior's designs with celebrity endorsement by Mila Kunis, Marion Cotillard (even though she is French) and Charlize Theron, who wouldn't want to be draped in their designs. I have visited the Dior store in Paris it is a beautiful shop with a number of Current and Vintage pieces of Dior on display. I couldn't think of a more dreamy place to work.

French designers really do seem to have their fingers firmly on the fashion pulse and seemingly lead the world in terms of design. However, other designers such as Lanvin and Christian Louboutin have carried on the French tradition of creating beautiful and desirable pieces of fashion design influenced by French culture, art and architecture. This is often seen in their designs. They sure know what their doing. I know that everyone should have a piece of French fashion by their favourite designer. I can't imagine my wardrobe without a Chanel Handbag or a pair of Christian Louboutin heels.

I'm not saying that the French are the best designers in the world as obviously I am a big supporter of British design but I do think that it is important to consider the impact French designers have had on every designer in the world. Perhaps without designers such as Chanel the industry we know today wouldn't be as prevalent or as successful. Maybe fashion wouldn't have evolved in the way it has. All I know is that we have a lot to be grateful for from the French and the number one thanks to them, is for not beating England in their first match of the Euro 2012 tournament.
